A Former Rival Could Be Working To Help Clinton
There were two big reasons why Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 presidential election, despite ultimately winning the popular vote. The first was mass Republican gerrymandering in the south lead to the disenfranchisement of many minority groups that were unable to find nearby polling places. However, the second involved the lack of enough working class support in the Rust Belt, with there being just enough people disillusioned with the Democrats to make the results close.
As Clinton now passes the 2 million vote mark ahead of Trump, though, many have started question if it is possible for her to challenge the electoral results. While FactCheck.org asserted that it is narrowly achievable, the truth is many key battleground states in the northeast had results similar to Florida in the 2000 presidential election, and every leftist in this country painfully remembers how failing to challenge that turned out.
While Clinton has, for the most part, respectfully conceded the election to Trump, a surprising rival of hers is pushing for a recount in three of the lost states. That rival is Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate that attempted to siphon Bernie Sanders supporters following his loss in the Democratic Party Primary. Stein has begun a fundraiser for at least $2.5 million in order to pay for recounts in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
Whether or not Stein’s motivations are to help Clinton remains ambiguous at the moment. She has openly expressed contempt for Clinton in the past, going so far as to call Trump less scary in mid-October. It also worth mentioning that, in the event that the Green Party gets more than .5 percent of the vote, they will be eligible to match funds in the next election. But, as seen with Ana Navarro, sometimes it takes people a very long time to realize what is eventually the right decision in the end.
As it stands, the official reason Stein has given for the recount initiative is because the “data suggests significant discrepancies in vote totals”. Let us support her in the hopes of preventing the Trump presidency from ever happening.
